Report: Mourinho personally contacts second right-back target after Meunier approach

Just a few days after reports suggested that Jose Mourinho recently phoned Thomas Meunier in order to convince him to join Spurs in the summer (ESPN), rumours from France indicate that the Spurs boss has now similarly contacted Max Aarons.

Aarons was already highly-rated courtesy of his impressive performances in the Championship last season, but his stock has risen even further after an eye-catching debut season in the Premier League with Norwich.

Football Insider reported earlier in the month that Spurs have made Aarons one of their top targets this summer, while Football.London’s Alasdair Gold claimed that the Norwich star was likely to be Tottenham’s prefered choice due to his versatility and homegrown status.

Soccer Link in France now reports that Mourinho has already contacted the pacey defender about coming to North London and competing with Serge Aurier for the right-back slot.

However, they reveal that the deal is far from complete, with Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal, also said to be interested in the 20-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

Of all the right-backs we have been linked with, Aarons sounds like the best option to go for given his age and his undoubted potential. I believe he is likely to hit another level next season with a year of Premier League experience under his belt, and he looks like the perfect fit for Spurs.
