Report: Mourinho prioritising these two positions in January

According to a report in the Telegraph, Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho wants to sign a forward as well as a defender in the January transfer window.

The new Spurs boss, who has registered three wins in his first three games in charge, has insisted since joining the club that he is happy with the players he has at his disposal (Football.London). He has got Tottenham’s attack clicking again with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Son Heung-min back among the goals.

However, the Telegraph reports that the Portuguese manager is keen on signing another forward who can serve as a back to up to Kane. Fernando Llorente, who saw his contract with the club run out in the summer and signed for Napoli, wasn’t replaced.

While it is also suggested that the Portuguese manager wants to reinforce his defence with another addition, the report does not mention whether he wishes to strengthen at full-back or centre back.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Pochettino preferred to use the likes of Son, Moura and Dele as forwards in Kane’s absence, none of them are natural centre forwards and so it does make sense for the club to bring somebody in who can serve as a back up to Kane. Ideally, we need to invest in a talented young striker who can learn from the England captain.
