Report: Mourinho promised to make Spurs star ‘one of the movie stars of football’

Based on the juicy details that have been leaked from the first three episodes of Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur’, it is apparent that the documentary is dominated by Jose Mourinho.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare revealed on social media that Mourinho’s individual meetings with the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier were some of the most fascinating parts of the first three episodes, which is due to come out on Monday.

The Evening Standard has now detailed Mourinho’s first meeting with Kane after he arrived at Spurs and how he managed to win the striker over.

The Spurs boss is filmed telling the England captain that he can help to make him one of the game’s biggest superstars.

Mourinho reportedly tells the striker in his office: “I believe that you have a very good relationship with Mauricio, I love that. I always think, good relationship with the previous manager. Why not me?

“I saw you training yesterday and I have no doubts that you are a leader. That is my feeling.

“The world looks to English football with an incredible respect but they still think that the movie stars of football belong to other places. We have to build also your status in that direction.

“My profile, I am little bit like that as a coach. The reality is that my dimension is universal and by being with me I think I can help you to [explode].”

Responding to the Tottenham head coach, Kane then admits his desire to achieve superstar status in the game.

He says: “That’s my aim. When you’re at a club like Tottenham, of course, we’ve done well and personally, I’ve done well. But I want to be Ronaldo and Messi.”

Mourinho then continued: “It’s not enough, yes, yes. What I don’t accept, because it is my fucking nature, to be here and win nothing.

“But I feel that we can because of you. You have better players than I had at Manchester United. The club has a lot [of potential] to explode.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have always suspected that one of the reasons Levy was tempted to hand the job to Mourinho is because the Portuguese coach has the gravitas to convince the likes of Kane and Son that they could achieve everything they want at Spurs. Based on the meeting detailed above, it is clear that Jose does not want the England captain to think he needs to join Real Madrid or Barcelona to achieve superstar status. However, it is crucial that we show signs of improvement next season if we are going to convince the likes of Kane and Son to commit their futures to us.
