Report: Mourinho ‘pushing’ Spurs to complete signing of £8.9m midfielder

There have been multiple reports linking Tottenham with a move for Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez over the last few weeks.

The Daily Star reported last month that the midfielder had been offered to Tottenham wit the French club said to be keen on cashing in on him this summer with Lopez havng just a year left on his contract.

Estadio Deportivo claimed earlier this month that 22-year-old will not be signing an extension with the Ligue 1 side after negotiations broke down.

The same publication have now suggested that Tottenham are battling West Ham United for the Frenchman signature this summer.

They reveal that Marseille are prepared to let him go for around €10million (£8.9m) and that Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the midfielder.

It is suggested that the Spurs head coach is pushing the club’s hierarchy to open negotiations over a possible deal.

Lopez has not played a full match in Ligue 1 since September and has had to make do with appearances from the bench.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lopez is very similar in style to both Harry Winks and Olivier Skipp and so it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for us to get him. A hard-tacking ball winner like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is what we need particularly given that Dier looks set to be moved to centre back.
