It was reported earlier this evening that Everton had stolen a march on Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Daily Echo claimed that the former Bayern Munich player has already travelled to the Toffees’ Finch Farm training ground after a £25million bid was accepted.
Everton first tested the water with a £20million offer last night which was rejected by Saints which left Carlo Ancelloti’s side making an improved £25million approach which wa accepted by the south coast outfit.
The Telegraph have claimed that despite Everton having agreed a fee, Jose Mourinho has not given up hope of bringing the 24-year-old to North London before a deal with the Toffees is confirmed.
Spurs are yet to agree a fee with Southampton with their current bid having fallen considerably short of the asking price.
Hojbjerg only has a year to run on his existing deal at St Mary’s and was stripped of the club captaincy in June (BBC).
