Report: Mourinho told incoming Roma signing that he wanted him at Spurs

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Jose Mourinho told soon-to-be AS Roma forward Andrea Belotti that he tried to sign him when he was at Tottenham Hotspur.

Belotti looks set to join Roma on a free transfer after his contract with Torino ran out earlier this summer (Tuttomercatoweb via RomaPress).

According to The Sun, the Giallorossi beat out competition from several Premier League clubs, including the likes of West Ham United, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Everton, to snap up the Italy international.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past, with reports indicating that the North London club had an offer of around €50m (£46.3m) for the striker rejected by Torino in the summer of 2020 (Gianluca Di Marzio).

Mourinho was in charge of the Lilywhites that summer, and if Gazzetta’s latest update is to be believed, the Roma boss has confirmed to Belotti that he did try to take him to Spurs in the past.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not surprised that Jose tried to sign Belotti as the Italian would have been a useful backup to Kane. I believe the 28-year-old has the physicality and aggression to thrive in the Premier League, which is why so many English clubs seem to have shown interest in him.
