Report: Mourinho told Spurs squad PL rivals would defecate themselves and bottle top four

Tottenham Hotspur endured a disappointing season last time out as they failed to finish in the top four for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.

In fact, the Lilywhites had to finish the season strong just to sneak into the sixth place and book their place in next season’s Europa League.

Jose Mourinho claimed at the end of last season that his side would have finished higher in the table if they had not had terrible luck with injuries.

It turns out that the Spurs boss was fairly confident of guiding the North Londoners to a top-four finish after replacing Mauricio Pochettino at the helm.

The Metro have revealed that the Portuguese coach is filmed telling his players in one episode of Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur’ that Chelsea would bottle a top-four spot if Spurs beat them at home in December.

Spurs cut the gap to the Blues to just three points heading into the clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and a win would have seen them leapfrog their London rivals in the table.

Speaking ahead of the match, Mourinho told his players in the team meeting: “We win tomorrow, Chelsea lose in Manchester City, they s**t themselves.

“Nine points, they come here in December, they s**t themselves. We can make top four.”

Tottenham ended up losing that match 2-0, with Son Heung-min’s sending off for kicking out at Antonio Rudiger not doing Mourinho’s men any favours.

That match against Chelsea ended up being pretty decisive in hindsight as it shattered our players’ confidence. Frank Lampard’s men were struggling coming into the match while we went into it in good form. However, Gazzaniga decided to give away a ridiculous penalty while Son’s sending off finishing us off. Had we won that game and moved ahead of Chelsea in the table, who knows how the rest of the campaign would have panned out for both clubs.
