Report: Mourinho trying to entice Madrid into a swap deal for Bale

According to a report by Spanish news outlet Diario GOL, the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Tottenham has been seen as good news at Real Madrid as the Portuguese manager maintains a good relationship with Real Madrid supremo Florentino Perez.

The report claims that the pair have already spoken about doing potential deals when the January transfer window opens.

It is suggested that Mourinho is aware of Madrid’s admiration towards Christian Eriksen and is keen to sell him to the La Liga giants in January.

While the 27-year-old is said to be available for €25-30 million, it is revealed that Mourinho has also discussed a potential swap deal involving Eriksen and Gareth Bale.

The report suggests that Los Blancos are keen to get rid of Bale and that the former Spurs star is open to a return to the Premier League. Mourinho reportedly discussed the possibility of bringing Bale back to Spurs with Perez in exchange for Eriksen plus €30 million.

While it is claimed that Madrid are open to the idea of a swap deal, they are said to be holding out for €80 million for Bale, which would mean Spurs have to pay €50 million plus Eriksen.

Madrid attempted to offload the Welshman in the summer and he nearly moved to the Chinese Super League, only for the deal to be cancelled at the last minute (BBC Sport).

Spurs Web Opinion

Both Mourinho and Daniel Levy share a good relationship with Perez and so I wouldn’t rule out Eriksen joining Madrid in January. However, I just can’t see Bale coming to Tottenham as the Welsh international will likely have to take a massive wage cut. Given his age and injury record, I’m not convinced Levy will sanction a move for Bale.
