Report: Mourinho turned down chance to sign star Spurs have now bid for

The Evening Standard have reported that Tottenham have a long-standing interest in Takehiro Tomiyasu, going back to Jose Mourinho’s time in charge, but the Special One was not keen on the defender.

However, with Nuno Espirito Santo now in charge, it appears that Tottenham are finally ready to follow up their interest with a serious attempt to land the Japanese defender.

Sky Sports reported this week that Spurs had a bid turned down for the centre-back, with Bologna valuing him at £17.2m and the North London club only offering £12.9m (€15m) as well as an extra £2.6m (€3m) in add-ons (Sky Sports (1/7 – 15:01).

However, another report claimed that Fabio Paratici is now ready to accelerate talks with the Serie A club to land Tomiyasu in the near future (Corriere di Bologna as relayed by Sport Witness).

Other reports have claimed that there is also interest from both Atalanta, who have already made a bid, and Manchester United.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This summer is just as much about who Paratici wants than Nuno, even more so if anything. The squad and the style of play will revolve around the new managing director of football, perhaps starting with Tomiyasu.
