Report: Mourinho wants experienced La Liga defender to replace Vertonghen

According to a report in Don Balon, Jose Mourinho wants to sign Real Betis defender Zouhair Feddal as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen this summer.

Tottenham have been linked with multiple Betis stars this summer including William Carvalho (Transfer20) and Loren Moron (Estadio Deportivo), and reports now indicate that Spurs now have their eyes on Feddal.

The 31-year-old had been somewhat of a journeyman until he singed for the Andalusians three years ago.

Although he put in some impressive displays in his first couple of seasons at the Benito Villamarin Stadium, he has found him self limited to a bit-part role this campaign.

The Moroccan international reportedly has only one year left on his contract and it is said that Lilywhites view him as an inexpensive option to replace Vertonghen.

Interestingly, Real Betis are one of the sides who have been linked with a move for the Belgian centre-back, with reports indicating that they have already held extensive talks with the Spurs star (Daily Star).

Spurs Web Opinion

Feddal would not be such a bad option if we are just looking for cover at centre-back rather than a starter. He is naturally left-sided and like Vertognhen, is decent on the ball. He is also dominant in the air and is good at cutting out crosses into the box. He is not likely to be too expensive either given his contract situation.
