Report: Mourinho wants to bring player he has been targeting for six years to Spurs

Reports in Spain have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho is keen on signing Real Betis star, William Carvalho.

Transfer20 have reported that Spurs, Leicester City, West Ham, and Wolves are all keeping an eye on the La Liga man ahead of the summer transfer window.

Real Betis, who dealt with Spurs last summer in a deal for Giovani Lo Celso, are said to want £27m for their man but are happy to sell him.

Carvalho has been linked with Mourinho for many years now, with the Mirror reporting the manager’s interest back in 2014 during his time at Chelsea. The Sun then liked the Special One with Carvalho again in 2018 during his Man United days.

The defensive midfielder signed for Betis in 2018 and has gone on to feature 52 times for the La Liga side. He also boasts 59 international caps and four goals with the Portugal senior side, including the 2016 European Championship victory (Wikipedia).

Spurs Web Opinion:

While Spurs need a defensive midfielder, I cannot see them spending almost £30m on a player this summer. I’m afraid that it will be a series of loan deals, player swaps, and bargain transfers for the Lilywhites.
