Report: Mourinho will not discard experienced Spurs star this summer

Football.London claim that Jose Mourinho and the Tottenham coaching staff are likely to stick with Hugo Lloris as their number one next season and will not bin the Frenchman in the summer.

Reports over recent weeks have claimed that the Spurs boss was keen to recruit another goalkeeper to challenge the World Cup winner (The Sun).

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha (Il Tempo) as well as Ajax stopper Andre Onana (The Sun) when the transfer market reopens.

Michel Vorm, who was culpable for Norwich City’s equaliser in the FA Cup defeat to the Canaries on penalties earlier this month, is expected to leave the club in the summer when his contract runs out.

However, Football.London claims that even if the club were to sign a goalkeeper, it would be someone to serve as back up to Lloris and challenge Paulo Gazzaniga for the number two spot.

The report also suggests the possibility that one of Brandon Austin or Alfie Whiteman could be promoted as the third-choice goalkeeper for the next campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t believe the goalkeeping positions will be one of Jose’s priorities in the summer as there are other positions where the team is in more urgent need of upgrades. While we do have to start thinking about Lloris long-term successor, I don’t expect us to move for a potential number one this summer.
