Report: Mourinho’s view on the Vertonghen and Alderweireld partnership revealed

For so many years now, Tottenham fans have grown accustomed to watching the Belgian brick wall of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in the centre of defence.

The duo had played together in North London, for Belgium, and during their Ajax days, with one left-footer and one right, making them the perfect pairing.

Since Alderweireld joined in 2015, he had been first choice alongside Vertonghen, most notably in the final season at White Hart Lane where the team didn’t lose a single home game.

However, with Vertonghen now 32-years-old and out of contract in the summer, it looks as if the partnership is coming to an end, despite Toby’s contract extension.

Mourinho has partnered the two of them on multiple occasions since coming in, but the Metro claim that the Special One is well aware that the days of this partnership are numbered.

It is said that Jose believes the back four needs an injection of youth for the future.
