Report: Move to Tottenham is still an option for Euro 2020 winner

According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno (as relayed by Sport Witness), a move to Tottenham Hotspur is on the cards for Lorenzo Insigne amidst his contract standoff with Napoli.

Insigne has been one of Napoli’s most consistent performers over the last decade and the 30-year-old has also become a key part of the Italian national side under Roberto Mancini, playing a valued role in the Azzurri’s march to European Championship glory this summer.

The attacker was linked with a move to Tottenham over the summer with reports even suggesting at the time that Spurs were the front-runners to land him.

Despite staying put at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the speculation over Insigne’s future has not slowed down, with Tottenham backed to reignite their interest in the attacker.

Corriere del Mezzogiorno have now explained that wages are the major stumbling block preventing Insigne from signing a new contract with Napoli.

It is explained that the attacker is free to talk to clubs from January and is considering his options including Spurs as ‘he looks around’ for a move.

While Tottenham are said to hold an ‘interest’ in the 30-year-old, the North Londoners are labelled as a ‘distant destination’ at this point in time.

The report further adds that an offer from Spurs has ‘never been taken into consideration’ up to this point, with Insigne preferring to stay in Italy.

Inter Milan are named as another potential destination for the Napoli skipper if they get rid of Alexis Sanchez.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that Insigne would be a good fit for the Premier League and the fact that he would have to be played on the left means that Son would have to be moved from his best position to accommodate the 30-year-old. I would much rather see Spurs snapping up someone like Traore, who would add a different dimension to our attack.
