Report: Nagelsmann and Enrique both asked Spurs same question during talks

90 min have revealed that both Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique had questions about Tottenham’s structure when they held talks with the North London club regarding their managerial vacancy.

It emerged a couple of weeks ago that Spurs had sat down with Enrique to discuss the vacancy (Evening Standard) while it was subsequently reported last week that Daniel Levy held talks with Nagelsmann after the 35-year-old had turned down the Chelsea job (CaughtOffside).

90 min have now confirmed that Tottenham did speak with the German and the Spaniard, with the publication asserting that they are the Lilywhites’ two primary managerial targets this summer.

The report states that both managers had questions about the state of the club’s hierarchy following Fabio Paratici’s exit.

It is explained that the North London club are continuing to look for a replacement for the Italian and Levy could not yet provide ‘definitive answers’ to any managerial candidates, although the Spurs chairman is willing to give the new head coach more of a say in recruitment.

90 min assert that while the lack of clarity regarding the new sporting director did not deter Enrique, Nagelsmann is less suited to having such power, taking on more of a backseat role at his previous clubs.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would certainly be quite tricky for Tottenham to hire a new head coach before a new director of football as some managers might not be comfortable committing to a project without knowing which direction they would be working under.

There is also the problem of the top candidates for the sporting director role not seeing eye-to-eye tactically or philosophically with the new head coach and perhaps wanting to bring their own coach in if they get the job.

So, Tottenham essentially have to hold talks for both roles simultaneously.
