Report names Conte’s ‘favourite’ option for new Spurs central midfielder

According to a new report from La Repubblica, Barcelona’s Franck Kessie is the favoured option for Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte as he looks to bolster his midfield.

The January transfer window is now open, and months of speculation and rumours could finally reveal themselves to be founded on accurate information. Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen to add to their squad, but which area gets reinforcements remains to be seen.

While many have called for new defenders or an extra attacker, the central midfield position is one which keeps getting mentioned as an area which may well have a new addition.

Spurs have been linked with the likes of Sofyan Amrabat (Foot Mercato) and Weston McKennie (La Repubblica and Ben Jacobs), but Barcelona’s Kessie has emerged as a new target of late.

Kessie only joined the La Liga side in the summer, on a free transfer, but things have not quite worked out in Spain so far. He has just 13 appearances to his name this campaign (Transfermarkt).

Now, it sounds like Kessie is the preferred option for Conte should he choose to bring in a new central midfielder for Spurs.

The latest from La Repubblica claims Kessie has been offered to many big clubs, mainly in Serie A, but insists Tottenham are also in the running as Conte “wants new players” in the middle of the park.

Apparently, Kessie is now Conte’s “favourite” of all the options he and Spurs are exploring for the central midfield role.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think Franck Kessie is a really good player and we could get him for a fairly low fee, but it feels a little bit cheeky of Barcelona to flip a player like this who they signed for free in the summer. Plus, we really should have other priorities in this window, like fixing our defence.
