Report names four left-sided centre-backs on Spurs’ summer transfer shortlist

The Athletic have revealed the four names at the top of Fabio Paratici’s wishlist for the left-sided centre-back role at Tottenham.

The report states that Spurs have decided to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back in the summer, with Antonio Conte wanting more competition for Ben Davies in the role.

It is said that Tottenham have settled on four potential options for the role – RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, Lille’s Sven Botman and Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck.

It is explained that Gvardiol is rated very highly by Leipzig and that it would take a club-record fee for Spurs to snap him up this summer.

Conte knows Bastoni well from their time together at Inter and it is claimed that the Nerazzurri could be open to selling the Italy international for around £50m.

The Athletic add that Spurs would need to beat AC Milan if they want Botman, with the Rossoneri already said to have already discussed personal terms with the Dutchman.

Finally, it is revealed that the Lilywhites could also face plenty of competition for Schlotterbeck’s signature, with the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund thought to be keen on the Freiburg star.

All four of the aforementioned players are young and have plenty of room for improvement. Out of the four, I would prefer Bastoni as he is arguably more proven at the top level compared to the other three. The Inter star also understands Conte’s system well, which means he would be able to slot into the starting eleven straight away.
