A report from Italian outlet CMW may have just revealed how much Tottenham are willing to sell Japhet Tanganga for, with the defender struggling for minutes under Antonio Conte.

The 23-year-old has been at Spurs all his career so far, having come through the club’s academy before being promoted to the first team in 2020. Tanganga has made just 44 appearances for Tottenham since then though (Transfermarkt), and is on the fringes of Antonio Conte’s squad.

Tanganga has played just 17 minutes of football for Spurs this season, coming on as a substitute for the first game of this year’s Champions League group stage against Marseille (Transfermarkt).

Plenty of clubs courted Tanganga over the summer, including AC Milan (Football Insider), Nottingham Forest (Luca Bianchin), and AS Roma (CalcioMercato). No move materialised, though, as Antonio Conte looked to keep him at Spurs as cover for the squad.

With the January transfer window looming and Tanganga’s game time in the Spurs first team limited, it’s widely expected that he will leave the club (The Evening Standard).

There should be a long line of clubs ready to snap him up too, especially if the report from CMW is to be believed when it comes to Tottenham’s asking price for the player.

According to CMW, Spurs will be keen to offload the youngster and would accept as little as £8.75 million in January. This, despite the fact that Tanganga is a homegrown player, something Spurs desperately need in their squad.

It remains to be seen how accurate that valuation is, but any club that gets Tanganga for that price will be getting a bargain you’d have to think.

I’d like to think we can demand a little bit more for Tanganga, especially given his homegrown status. But, if that is what it takes to offload a player who clearly doesn’t have a future at the club and allows us to bring in a new player in his place, then so be it.
