Report names Spurs as Atletico Madrid’s main threat in race for 24-year-old

Marca report that Atletico Madrid are wary of competition from Tottenham Hotspur as they plot a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson in the summer.

Ederson has come on leaps and bounds since moving to Atalanta in 2022 and he has emerged as one of the most consistent box-to-box midfielders in Serie A this campaign.

Over the last few months, it has been widely reported that Spurs are one of the clubs keeping an eye on the Brazilian’s performances (GiveMeSport).

In fact, Tutto Atalanta even suggested a few weeks ago that Ange Postecoglou’s men had already made some advances towards the 24-year-old ahead of the summer window.

Atletico enter a race with Spurs for Ederson

Marca now say that Diego Simeone’s side are looking to strengthen in the middle of the park when the transfer window reopens in June and have now set their sights on Ederson.

However, the publication states that Atletico are aware that the move will not be straightforward, partly because Tottenham are also circling over the player.

The report asserts that Ederson is valued by Atalanta at €30m (£25.7m) and adds that the ‘negotiation would surely be long’, which perhaps suggests that the Italian club are not too keen on letting the midfielder leave.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Ederson having two years left on his contract, there is no way Atalanta would consider selling him for £25m. The Italian side tend to drive a hard bargain and I fully expect them to demand upwards of £40m for the Brazilian, given how important he is to their side.
