Report names Spurs player Conte was ‘consistently’ impressed with in training

A report from ESPN has shed some light on Antonio Conte’s reign at Tottenham Hotspur, and highlighted Harry Kane as one player the Italian was consistently impressed with in training.

Conte’s time at Tottenham came to an end on Sunday after 16 months. The club confirmed they had parted ways with the Italian by mutual consent, with Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason set to steer the ship until the end of the season.

According to the Evening Standard, the decision to cut ties with Conte was made after the manager lost the faith and goodwill of the dressing room, with players reportedly happy to see the back of the 53-year-old.

Conte had publicly criticised his players in his final press conference after the game against Southampton earlier this month (Football.London).

A further report from the Daily Mail suggests Tottenham players had pleaded with Conte to change his ways, including the gruelling training and fitness regimes he would put them through.

The squad had also reportedly requested a more attacking style of play in favour of Conte’s more defensive approach.

Now, the latest from ESPN has offered some insight into Conte’s methods behind the scenes and pinpointed Spurs striker Kane as a player the former manager was particularly impressed with.

According to sources close to the team, Kane was “consistently regarded as an exemplary performer in training.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no surprise that Harry Kane was well thought of by Conte.

He’s a model professional and always has been, and you just know that he would be the kind of player any manager would dream of having at their disposal.

The full report does make for a worrying read at times, though, given the severe nature of Conte’s managerial methods and how he treated certain players during his time with Spurs.
