Report names the four positions Tottenham want to invest in this summer

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham will look to strengthen in goal, central defence and upfront during next summer’s transfer window.

It was reported ahead of the January transfer window that Antonio Conte was prioritising reinforcements at right wing-back and in attack (90 min) and the club delivered both, with Arnaut Danjuma and Pedro Porro arriving through the door.

Some Spurs fans might feel that the club should have done more business but Fabio Paratici explained on Tottenham’s official website on Wednesday that a lot of top targets were not available mid-season, and added that they are pleased with the two signings they have made.

Alasdair Gold said earlier this week (Q&A on Football.London) that Spurs are expected to sign one right-sided centre-back and a left-sided centre-back during the summer.

This has now been backed up by The Athletic, who state that the Lilywhites will look to sign two centre-backs, a goalkeeper and a striker at the end of the season, having failed to strengthen those areas in January.

There is an opportunity cost to every signing as it means that the club cannot pursue other players. Perhaps, Paratici and Conte decided it was better to wait until the summer to get some of their top targets for each position, rather than settling for an alternative who is not as good in January.
