Report names the price Spurs will have to pay for James Maddison this summer

A report from the Telegraph has highlighted financial issues at Leicester City, and claims James Maddison may be sold to Tottenham Hotspur for £60 million as a result.

Maddison joined Leicester in 2018 from Norwich and has now amassed 191 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 54 goals and registering 37 assists during that time (Transfermarkt).

His form over the last two years has made Maddison one of, if not the most important player at Leicester and has seen the player attract interest from the top clubs in the Premier League.

This season, Maddison has nine goals and five assists to his name (Transfermarkt) as he helps Leicester battle against relegation.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are currently in 15th place in the Premier League, just three points ahead of the drop zone.

Leicester are apparently keen to tie Maddison down to a new contract (90 Min), amid interest from the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle United, and Manchester City (Football Insider).

Spurs have long been linked with the 26-year-old and now it appears there may be a good chance of securing his signature in the summer.

The report from the Telegraph claims Leicester City have recorded a huge £92.5 million loss for the financial year, and it is thought there will now be “some pressure to sell players in the short to medium term.”

With this in mind, it is suggested Maddison is “likely to be a target for a number of Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, and could cost a minimum of £60 million.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We’ve been tracking Maddison for so long now, and it’s clear that he’s the exact kind of player we need to bring more creativity to the side.

He may cost £60 million, but for that you’re getting a proven goalscorer and provider, who is also homegrown.

Spurs have to get this deal done in the summer.
