According to a report by Sport, Tottenham Hotspur could include Toby Alderweireld and Tanguy Ndombele in a deal to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona.
The same publication reported earlier this week that Barca were assessing Tottenham’s defenders and attacking midfield options to potentially be included in a deal for Coutinho.
They suggested that the Catalan giants were willing to lower their €90m valuation of the former Liverpool star to around €50-60m in cash and a player worth around €30m.
However, Sport now claim that the North Londoners wish to exchange Ndombele and Alderweireld directly for the Brazilian midfielder without paying any cash.
Ndombele has been linked with a move to Barca previously (Sky Sports) but the suggestion that Alderweireld could be included in the swap deal is a surprising one considering that the centre-back signed a new deal with the Lilywhites back in December.
The report goes on to suggest that the La Liga giants would prefer a straight cash deal instead of exchanging players.
Spurs Web Opinion
I have a hard time believing Sport’s claims considering the fact that they keep making contradictory claims every week. If we are to sign Coutinho, I believe it will have to be a loan deal with an option to buy. I cannot see us completing a permanent deal for the Brazilian this summer.
