Report: Napoli and Ajax ready to make move for Spurs star

Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jan Vertonghen had a match to forget against Southampton yesterday in the Premier League.

Not only did the centre-back fail to complete a clean sheet and make defensive errors, but he also missed what was perhaps Tottenham’s best chance of the match during the first half.

Vertonghen, now 32 years of age, has just six months left on his contract in North London, calling into question whether he will be at the club this time next year.

Now that we are in the January transfer window, Vertonghen can talk to non-English clubs about pre-contract agreements that could see him move on a free in the summer.

The Telegraph have now reported that both Napoli and Ajax are interested in the defender, so much so that they are willing to make offers in January instead of waiting.

This comes seven years after Ajax sold the player to Tottenham in the first place, the club at which Vertonghen played as a youth starlet.
