Report: Napoli are now ready to enter the race for Spurs-linked striker

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli are ready to enter the race to sign Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez, who is also alleged to be on Tottenham’s radar.

It has been widely reported over the past few months that Spurs are expected to sign a marquee number nine in the summer (Football Insider), with reports previously indicating that Gimenez is seen by the North London club as a potential heir to Harry Kane (Mirror).

The centre-forward is having yet another prolific season at De Kuip, having found the back of the net 24 times across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Napoli are ready to make a move for Santiago Gimenez

Gazzetta have now claimed that Napoli expect to lose Victor Osimhen in the summer and have now identified Gimenez as a potential replacement for the Nigerian.

The report names Tottenham as one of the Serie A side’s competitors for the Mexican, adding that Francesco Calzona’s men are aware that they are not the only ones after the Feyenoord star.

The publication asserts that the 22-year-old centre-forward is expected to cost around £43m in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gimenez’s form has tailed off a bit since December, which might have created some doubts at Tottenham if the Feyenoord star is the right man to lead the line.

One would think that rather than risking £45m on the Mexican, the North London club would rather spend £15m extra to sign a proven top-class performer like Ivan Toney.
