Report: Napoli eye Spurs man as potential replacement for West Ham target

Napoli have identified Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as a potential replacement for Piotr Zielinski should he complete a move to West Ham, according to Area Napoli.

The Serie A club are keen to keep Poland international Zielinksi but are also eager to have a replacement in mind should he join the Hammers, with Lo Celso said to fit the bill.

The 26-year-old is thought to like the potential switch to Naples, with the Serie A club aware he has been excluded from Antonio Conte’s immediate plans.

However, the report adds Spurs are keen to let him leave permanently for around €20 million (£16.8m) or as a loan deal with an obligation to purchase him outright.

Joining Spurs from Real Betis in 2019, Lo Celso has struggled for the vast majority of his time in North London through injury and inconsistency.

The Argentine was sent out on loan to Villarreal in January last season and despite impressing, the Yellow Submarine have struggled to put together a deal to re-sign him this summer (El Periodico Mediterraneo).

Lo Celso returned to Spurs over the summer for the start of pre-season training but has been omitted from the squad for all three of the club’s friendlies.

Spurs Web Opinion

There seems to be a bit of a domino effect with this rumour but it would allow Spurs to enter negotiations with Napoli if they really are interested in Lo Celso.

Spurs need to offload him and ideally need to secure a deal where they receive some cash in return this summer given the amount they previously invested in him.
