Report: Napoli eyeing move for 28-year-old Spurs player

According to a report in the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Napoli are eyeing a move for Ben Davies this summer.

Davies has been a great servant to Spurs since arriving from Swansea back in 2014.

Even though the 28-year-old has rarely been the club’s first-choice left-back during his time in North London, he has always been a useful squad player who can be counted on to produce reliable performance when called upon.

Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that the Welshman could leave Spurs this summer amidst Napoli’s interest.

The report explains that the Serie A club want to sign Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri but have identified Davies as an alternative if they are not able to secure the Italy international.

It is asserted that Napoli believe that the Tottenham star has an ‘interesting profile’ but have not made contact with the North London club as of yet.

Despite having three years left on his contract, it is suggested that Davies could be available for just €15m (£12.8m).

Spurs Web Opinion

A lot of Spurs fans would likely jump at the chance of getting £13m for Davies but I think that is not a true reflection of the Welshman’s valuation.

Davies is often disrespected by parts of the Spurs fan base just because is an old-fashioned left-back who does not offer as much as others going forward.

I would like to see us hang on to the 28-year-old as I believe he is a different kind of option to both Reguilon and Sessegnon. Besides, I also think he could be a very useful player as a left-centre-back in a back three as he has demonstrated over the years in a Wales shirt.

His excellent attitude and his tendency to give his all every time, makes him a very valuable squad player.
