Report: Napoli looking to make move for centre-back linked with Spurs and Juventus

CalcioMercato report that Napoli have now started working on a deal to sign Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Calafiori has been a revelation since his switch from Basel to Bologna last summer and the centre-back looks on course to play a key part in Italy’s European Championship campaign in the summer.

It has been reported by various Italian outlets over the past month and a half that Tottenham and Juventus are battling it out for the youngster’s services (Oggi Sport Notizie).

Napoli enter the picture for Riccardo Calafiori

CalcioMercato have now explained that while Juve had identified the versatile Calafiori as their top choice to replace Alex Sandro, the Bianconeri now have competition to contend with from Napoli.

In fact, it is alleged that the reigning Serie A champions have already conducted ‘first exploratory contacts’ to sign the 21-year-old.

The publication asserts that it would take an offer in the region of €15m-€20m (£12.8m-£17m) to convince Bologna to cash in on their young sterlet in the summer.

Bologna would likely want to wait until the end of the Euros before selling Calafiori as they would be aware that the centre-back’s price will shoot up considerably if he delivers standout performances in Germany for Luciano Spalletti’s men.
