Report: Napoli may have the financial muscle to beat Spurs to 26-year-old target

According to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli are now in talks over a deal to sign Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson, who is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Given the outstanding performances that Gudmundsson has delivered right through the season at Luigi Ferraris Stadium, it is not surprising that several sides across the continent are now eying a move for the 26-year-old.

Last week, La Repubblica (via Calciomercato) claimed that Spurs are battling the likes of West Ham, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli for the 26-year-old’s services.

Napoli make contact over Albert Gudmundsson

According to Gazzetta’s latest update, Napoli have now made contact with Genoa over a deal for Gudmundsson to learn how much the player would cost.

The report claims that Genoa want a minimum of €30m (£25.5m) for their star man and it is explained that this might not be an issue for Napoli.

This is because last season’s Serie A champions could cash in on Victor Osimhen and the Nigerian’s departure would leave the club with a fair amount of cash.

If Gudmundsson is indeed near the top of Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist, one would expect Tottenham to soon start laying the groundwork for a deal.

Perhaps the North London club are waiting until their conversations with Genoa over Djed Spence because that could be the opportune moment to insert the Iceland international into the negotiations.
