Report: Napoli step up pursuit of £17m centre-back said to be wanted by Spurs

CalcioMercato have revealed that Napoli are now set to push ahead with a move for rumoured Tottenham target Jakub Kiwior ahead of the January transfer window.

Kiwior has been extremely solid in the Spezia backline this season but it is his displays for Poland at the World Cup that seem to have captured the attention of several clubs.

Over recent weeks, Spurs are one of the clubs credited with an interest in the centre-back but the North London club are thought to be facing competition from the likes of Roma, Juventus, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal, and West Ham United (Fichajes).

Milan Live reported last week that West Ham were the front-runners to snap up the 22-year-old but that has now been contradicted by CalcioMercato, who suggest that Napoli are at the front of the queue for Kiwior’s services.

The report explains that Milan have not yet decided whether to push ahead with a move for the Spezia star while Juventus’ pursuit of the player has been complicated by their legal troubles.

This is said to have opened the door for Luciano Spalletti’s men, who are alleged to have stepped ‘on the accelerator’ in the race for the defender.

CalcioMercato add that in light of Kiwior’s performances at the World Cup, Spezia value him at around €20m (£17.2m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Paratici and Conte will certainly be well aware of Kiwior’s potential, given that they keep a close eye on Italian football. While I am sure that the 22-year-old will be on their wishlist, I doubt he would be anywhere near the top of it.

I suspect Conte will want to sign an experienced operator like Rodrigo Becao as cover for Romero and Dier at right centre-back and the central sweeper role, with Tanganga likely to depart the club in January.
