Report: Napoli submit big offer for centre-back linked with Tottenham

In what could be a concerning development for Tottenham, Corriere dello Sport have reported that Napoli have made a bid of €40m (£34.2m) to sign Alessandro Buongiorno, who has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs.

Tottenham’s interest in Buongiorno first came to light over a week ago when Calciomercato claimed that Spurs had ‘initiated contact’ over a deal for the central defender.

The report stated that the Lilywhites had reached out to Torino to understand the cost of the operation and revealed that AC Milan and Napoli had also shown keen interest in the 24-year-old.

La Repubblica (via TuttoJuve) then subsequently backed up Spurs’ interest in the centre-back and even suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s men were ‘in the front row’ to sign the player.

Napoli submit offer for Alessandro Buongiorno

Corriere dello Sport now claim that Napoli have become the first club to submit a proposal to sign Buongiorno ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report says that last season’s Serie A champions have submitted an opening bid of €35m (£30m) plus €5m (£4.2m) add-ons.

Napoli President De Laurentiis believes Buongiorno is said to be determined to secure the Italy international but the publication adds that the likes of Milan, Inter, Juve and Tottenham also remain in the picture.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Tottenham responded with an offer of their own for Buongiorno. Rather than spending £35m on a fourth-choice centre-back, I expect Spurs to prioritise deals for Adarabioyo and use the bulk of their transfer budget to strengthen in midfield and upfront.
