Report: Negotiations over Spurs star will accelerate after transfer development

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed negotiations over Steven Bergwijn’s sale could accelerate following Richarlison’s impending arrival at Tottenham.

David Ornstein reported earlier today that Richarlison is undergoing his today ahead of sealing a move to Spurs.

The journalist revealed that Tottenham and Everton have agreed on an initial fee of £50m for the forward and are continuing to hold talks over add-ons, which could be worth an additional £10m.

Over the last week, reports have indicated that Spurs and Ajax are locked in negotiations for Bergwijn (Algemeen Dagblad via Sport Witness), while Everton have also been credited with an interest in the Netherlands international (De Telegraaf).

Eccleshare has now revealed that Spurs wanted to sign a forward before allowing Bergwijn to leave the club.

With Richarlison now set to become the North London club’s fourth signing of the summer, it is said that Antonio Conte’s men could step up negotiations regarding the former PSV Eindhoven man’s departure.

Eccleshare adds that while Ajax remain the frontrunner for Bergwijn’s signature, the winger is also attracting interest from Premier League clubs including Everton.

I would expect the Bergwijn’s departure to be sealed over the next few days, now that Richarlison’s arrival at Tottenham looks imminent. I fully expect Ajax to win the race for the winger as the 24-year-old seemingly wants to return to the familiar comforts of the Eredivisie ahead of the World Cup in November.
