Report: New Arsenal signing rejected Spurs approach before heading to Emirates

According to a report from Norwegian outlet VG (as relayed by The Metro), new Arsenal signing Martin Odegaard rejected Tottenham’s approach before agreeing on a move to the Emirates.

On Wednesday, Arsenal confirmed that they had signed Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season.

Reports indicate that Spurs are also in the market for an attacking midfielder to replace Dele Alli, with the England international potentially joining Paris Saint-Germain on loan.

However, Jose Mourinho has stated that he expects Alli to stay and does not think that there will be any new arrivals before the transfer window closes.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein said on the Ornstein & Chapman Podcast that Spurs were one of the clubs Odegaard was offered to this month.

VG now claim that Mourinho’s men were interested in signing the 22-year-old but he decided to reject Tottenham’s approach in favour of a move to Arsenal after speaking with Mikel Arteta.

I would be surprised if there is any truth to this report as we have a few players who can play as a number ten or out wide even if Alli joins PSG on loan. Besides, even if we had made an approach, Odegaard probably knew that he had a much better chance of getting game time at Arsenal.
