Report: New Premier League club enters race for Spurs-linked Christian Eriksen

Newcastle United have held talks with Christian Eriksen over a potential move to St James’ Park, according to Football Transfers.

Eriksen’s representatives are said to have met with Newcastle on Monday, with the Dane attracting plenty of interest from other clubs following his impressive spell at Brentford.

The playmaker joined the Bees on a six-month deal at the end of the January transfer window and played a pivotal role in helping them avoid relegation from the Premier League during their first campaign in the top flight.

Sky Sports claimed last week that Brentford have offered Eriksen a long-term deal and are now awaiting a response from the 30-year-old who is currently on international duty.

Tottenham are reportedly interested in re-signing the Dane this summer (90min), while Man United and Everton have also been linked (Mirror).

Eriksen is reported to have been left intrigued by Antonio Conte’s comments (Sky Sports) about potentially being welcomed back to play for Tottenham once again and has settled back into life in London (Sky Sports live transfer blog – June 2, 9:51 pm).

Newcastle’s newfound wealth means they are likely to be able to offer Eriksen a hefty salary, however, the Dane is more likely to remain in London by either extending his deal at Brentford or finding the lure of playing Champions League football for Tottenham once again too hard to resist.
