Report: New Spurs signing set to miss Southampton season opener

According to Sami Mokbel, Chief Football Reporter at the Daily Mail, new Tottenham signing Richarlison will receive a one-match ban from the FA for throwing a flare off the pitch last season.

Richarlison, who joined Spurs for a fee which is thought to be up to £60 million (Sky Sports), was cited for throwing a flare away from the Goodison Park turf towards the stands in a fixture against Chelsea in May.

The 25-year-old was at the centre of attention that day for another reason as he netted the winner that earnt Frank Lampard’s side a vital three points in their quest for survival (ESPN).

The Daily Mail now report that the forward has been handed a one-game ban by the FA, meaning he will miss the first Premier League game of the season for his new club: a home fixture against Southampton on the fifth of August.

However, the Brazilian will be available for Spurs’ trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on matchday two (Daily Mail).

It’s never ideal having a new signing unavailable for the first game of the new season, however, Antonio Conte and his staff will have been made aware of the potential ban before Richarlison was brought to N17. His competitive debut will now likely be against Chelsea and I’m predicting that more sparks will fly.
