Report: Newcastle and Leicester express interest in Spurs-linked midfielder

French publication But! Football Club have revealed Tottenham Hotspur face competition from the likes of Leicester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa for Lens midfielder Seko Fofana.

Fofana has emerged as one of the top midfield enforcers in Ligue 1 since joining Lens from Udinese two years ago.

Jeunes Footeux reported last week that Tottenham are monitoring the 26-year-old as well as his midfield partner Cheick Doucoure.

But! Football Club have now backed up the claim regarding Tottenham’s interest in Fofana but they reveal that Antonio Conte’s men are facing competition from the Premier League and across Europe for the midfielder.

Apart from Leicester, Villa and Newcastle, the Lens star is also said to be on the radar of AC Milan, with the Rossoneri backed to ‘launch an offensive’ for the Ivorian if their pursuit of Renato Sanches falls through.

Ligue 1 giants Marseille and Lyon are also said to have expressed an interest in snapping up Fofana this summer.

Fofana has not shown enough to suggest that he can be a starter for a top-six club in the Premier League. However, in Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Conte already has three central midfielders he can count on, and could only be looking to add a squad player to replace Harry Winks.
