The Daily Mirror have claimed that Newcastle United could reignite their interest in Hugo Lloris after failing with a move for the Tottenham man in the summer.
The report states that Newcastle are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper following Nick Pope’s recent injury, with the England international now set to be out of action for four months.
While Martin Dubravka is expected to continue between the sticks over the next few months, it is said that Eddie Howe wants to bring a suitable backup through the door in January, with Lloris being one of the names on their wishlist.
Newcastle to make second attempt for Hugo Lloris
It is explained that the Magpies hierarchy rates the Frenchman highly and failed with a deadline day move for him in the summer, with the former Spurs captain ‘politely rejecting’ them at the time.
The report states that Newcastle are now considering a loan approach for Lloris, with Spurs said to be keen on offloading the goalkeeper, whose contract at the North London club runs out next summer.
The Mirror adds that Newcastle are also eyeing former Man Utd goalkeeper David De Gea as an alternative to the Tottenham man.

I do not think Lloris would be too keen on the idea of warming the bench at St James’ Park for the next six months.
The 36-year-old would likely be looking for an opportunity where he can be a starter, even if it means dropping down to a poorer league. I think the most likely outcome is a contract termination in January so that he can sign for the club of his choice as a free agent.
