Report: Newcastle are now favourites to beat Tottenham to 25-year-old

HITC have revealed that Newcastle United have moved to the front of the queue ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Bournemouth defender Llyod Kelly.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham are expected to bolster their options at centre-back this summer, with Kelly thought to be on their radar.

The latest to make that claim was Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, who stated last week that the Bournemouth defender, whose current deal runs out in June, is one of the names on Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist.

Newcastle now favourites to sign Lloyd Kelly

HITC have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in Kelly while adding that Liverpool, AC Milan and Juventus are also keen on securing the versatile defender, who can operate as a centre-back or as a left-back.

However, the outlet says that it is Newcastle who have now emerged as the favourites to win the race for the Bournemouth star, with the Magpies having ‘stepped up’ their efforts to sign the player.

The report claims that Eddie Howe is keen to add reinforcements to his backline and Newcastle are now thought to be ‘close’ to striking a deal with the English defender.

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the reports over recent weeks, it sounds like Kelly is edging close to a move to Newcastle while Tottenham are concentrating their efforts on signing Tosin Adarabioyo.

It does not come as a surprise that Postecoglou would be prioritising Adarabioyo over Kelly as the Bournemouth star is of a similar profile to Ban Davies, who is likely to remain at Spurs.
