After months of trailing Conor Gallagher, it seems Tottenham Hotspur could miss out on signing the Chelsea midfielder as Newcastle United are now pushing to secure his signature this summer.
Despite featuring for Chelsea 43 times this season, scoring five goals and registering eight assists (Transfermarkt), and even captaining the side for large chunks of the campaign, it remains to be seen whether Conor Gallagher will still be at the club next season.
It has long been suspected that Tottenham would be eager to sign Gallagher if Chelsea do indeed decide to sell their academy graduate (GiveMeSport). And, there is a growing belief that the Blues will be forced to let him go to avoid breaking PSR rules (The Times).

A recent report from Chronicle Live added Newcastle to the list of suitors for Gallagher, with a claim that the Magpies had sent a scout to watch the England midfielder in action.
The latest on the situation comes from Football Insider, who suggest Newcastle are “weighing up” a move for Gallagher ahead of the summer.
With Gallagher “no closer” to agreeing a new contract with Chelsea and heading into the final 12 months of his current deal, there is a belief that a switch could be on the cards.

And Newcastle, who “hold a long-term interest” in Gallagher, are plotting a “new swoop” for their target at the end of the season.

I still like the idea of us taking Chelsea’s poster boy away from them, but I’m a lot less concerned either way. I think there are better players out there for us, who might not cost quite as much anyway. But, the fact Gallagher is homegrown is an added bonus that we have to take into consideration.
