Newcastle boosted by return of two first-team players to training ahead of Spurs clash

Newcastle United could be boosted by the return of two players for Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Premier League returns to action this weekend following the international break and will see Nuno Espirito Santo take his Spurs side to St James’ Park to face a Newcastle side who have been boosted by their recent takeover.

Mike Ashley ended his 14-year stint as the chairman of the Magpies last week after a Saudi Arabian-backed £305m deal was rubber stamped by the Premier League (BBC).

The Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) who now own 80% of Newcastle have assets of £250bn, which make them one of the wealthiest clubs in world football (BBC).

Newcastle have revealed that club captain Jamaal Lascelles has returned to training ahead of the visit of Tottenham, while striker Callum Wilson also took part in the session having missed the last four top flight matches with a hamstring injury (transfermarkt).

Tottenham will certainly be wary that they will be walking into a sold-out St James’ Park full of a jubilant Toon Army support who are celebrating the departure of Mike Ashley and the potential the club now has ahead of it following the takeover.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side returned to winning ways against Aston Villa and need to follow it up with all three points on Tyneside if they are to keep pushing for a top four finish this season.
