Report: Newcastle could enter race for centre-back linked with Spurs

According to The Daily Mail, rumoured Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol is on Newcastle’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs are expected to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back when the transfer window opens in the summer (Telegraph).

It was reported at the start of March that Tottenham have been impressed with Gvardiol’s showing at RB Leipzig this season and the Croat had moved ahead of Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Lille’s Sven Botman on the North London club’s wishlist (Daily Mail).

The report further added that Leipzig value the 20-year-old at around £50m amidst Tottenham’s interest.

Sky Germany (via GFNG) subsequently claimed that the Bundesliga club are now planning for life without Gvardiol and had identified potential replacements for the centre-back.

The Croat was also reported to be attracting interest from Tottenham’s London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea (Index).

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Newcastle could also be about to enter the race for Gvardiol.

The report reveals the Magpies hierarchy will have discussions this week over whether or not to push ahead with a move for the Leipzig star.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Newcastle’s aspirations to break into the top six/top four, we will likely be competing with them for several players this summer. Qualifying for the Champions League could be crucial as that would give us a bigger pull than the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle.
