Report: Newcastle could make move for Spurs-linked 18-year-old PL starlet

The Mirror have revealed that Newcastle United could enter the race to sign Brighton starlet, Evan Ferguson, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham recently.

In modern-day football, centre-forwards are not just expected not just to score goals but to also get involved heavily in link-up play and to set the tone for the team’s press.

While Tottenham themselves are blessed to have arguably the best number nine in the world in Harry Kane, there is a lack of such well-rounded strikers at the moment in Premier League football.

That is perhaps one of the reasons why there is such excitement surrounding Ferguson, who is very much a modern-day centre-forward, being capable of linking play and holding up the ball while also knowing where the back of the net is.

The 18-year-old has scored four goals and provided three assists in nine senior appearances for the Seagulls this season, and The Sun even claimed last week that the North London club believe that the teenager can follow in Kane’s footsteps.

However, if The Mirror’s latest update is to be believed, Tottenham could have competition to contend with from Newcastle for Ferguson’s signature next summer.

The publication claims that the Magpies are monitoring the Brighton starlet’s progress on the south coast closely ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

It looks like Tottenham and Newcastle might be battling it out for many of the same players in the summer, with the likes of Ferguson, James Maddison and Alex Scott, among others, being mooted as targets for both clubs.

It is imperative that we secure the fourth spot so that we remain a more attractive destination to potential targets.
