Report: Newcastle emerge as frontrunners for Spurs-linked 25-year-old

Newcastle United have emerged as frontrunners to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Dean Henderson, according to 90min.

The report claims that the Magpies were keen to sign the Manchester United goalkeeper on loan in January and are hopeful of landing him on a permanent deal with the player keen to end his stay at Old Trafford having failed to dislodge David de Gea.

The Spaniard is being tipped to sign a new long-term deal with the former Premier League champions and they have also been linked with opening talks with West Brom’s Sam Johnstone who is out of contract at West Brom at the end of the season.

Football.London reported in December that the England international, 25, was on Tottenham’s radar.

Tottenham‘s current number one Hugo Lloris ended speculation regarding his future by signing a new two-and-a-half-year contract in January.

Tottenham do need to have a plan in place ready for when Lloris decides to end his time at the club at the end of his current deal and Pierluigi Gollini has failed to challenge the World Cup winner for the starting berth between the posts.

With Lloris still showing that he is capable of being a world class goalkeeper, a deal for Henderson has come a year or two too early for Tottenham.
