Report: Newcastle enter race for Italian said to be wanted by Spurs – Could be free agent

According to CalcioMercato, Newcastle United have now entered the race for rumoured Tottenham target Alessio Romagnoli.

Romagnoli has been one of AC Milan’s most consistent performers for many years and but the Rossoneri captain’s current deal at the San Siro runs out in the summer (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back in the summer (Telegraph), with the Italian said to be one of the options on the North London club’s radar (Calciomercato.it).

TuttoMercatoWeb reported in January that while the centre-back’s preference is to continue his career with Milan, the Serie A giants’ contract offer had fallen short of what the player was expecting.

According to CalcioMercato’s latest update, the chances of Romagnoli remaining at Milan next season are very slim.

The report reveals that several clubs have expressed an interest in the centre-back, with Lazio currently leading the race to snap him up.

Newcastle are also said to have entered the race for the Italy international in ‘recent days’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte and Paratici will certainly be well aware of Romagnoli’s qualities. However, the fact that Spurs do not seem to have made any advances for the 27-year-old despite him being available for free, suggests that the North Londoners could be prioritising other left centre-backs like Sven Botman.
