Report: Newcastle enter race for midfielder allegedly wanted by Spurs

According to CalcioMercato, Newcastle United have now set their sights on a deal for reported Tottenham target Franck Kessie.

Kessie’s contract at AC Milan runs out at the end of the season and the Rossoneri have allegedly been unable to meet the midfielder’s contract demands.

The 24-year-old is thought to have rejected an offer worth £110,000-a-week from Milan, with the report claiming the gap between the parties is now ‘unbridgeable’.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in Ivory Coast international ahead of the January transfer window (Corriere dello Sport).

If CaclioMercato’s latest update is to be believed, Newcastle have now also entered the race for Kessie following the club’s Saudi-led takeover.

The report adds that the midfielder ‘likes’ the idea of joining Newcastle and that the Magpies could make an offer when the transfer window reopens in January.

It is suggested in the report that Kessie is also on the radar of Barcelona.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is likely to become a bit of a theme over the next few years as I suspect Spurs and Newcastle will have very similar transfer targets in the coming windows.

The Magpies need to build steadily if they want to close the gap with the top six and so one would expect them to go for the same standard of players that we do.

That is not good news for Spurs as they will be able to blow us out of the water both in terms of transfer fees and wages.
