Report: Newcastle exploring move for Spurs-linked Premier League attacker

The Telegraph have revealed that Newcastle United hold an interest in Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham over recent months.

Although Ziyech has been handed more minutes since Graham Potter arrived at Chelsea than he did under his predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, the Moroccan continues to largely be a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham were credited with an interest in the 29-year-old a couple of months ago, with TodoFichajes claiming at the time that Antonio Conte’s men were ready to pay £20m for the former Ajax star.

AC Milan were also subsequently mooted as a contender for the Chelsea star’s signature but it has since emerged that they are not willing to meet the player’s salary demands of €8m (£6.8m) per season (Gazzetta dello Sport).

If The Telegraph’s latest update is to be believed, the Magpies could now make a move for Ziyech over the coming weeks.

The report explains that Chelsea have to cut two non-homegrown players from their Champions League squad after the January arrivals of Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix and Benoît Badiashile, with the West London club said to be ready to move to offload the Moroccan international.

Eddie Howe’s men are thought to be considering the possibility of snapping up Ziyech, as well as midfielders Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek this month.

Now that Bryan Gil looks set to stay, it will be interesting to see if Conte decides that he would be better off signing a player like Leandro Trossard rather than a right-winger of the profile of Ziyech or Nicolo Zaniolo. Either way, it does not seem like the Chelsea man is near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist for this transfer window.
