The Daily Mail have revealed that Newcastle United have already begun their efforts to secure Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
With Kelly’s current contract at the Vitality Stadium running out in the summer, there has understandably been quite a bit of speculation over the centre-back’s future over recent months.
A couple of weeks ago, TEAMtalk claimed that the 25-year-old had made it clear to the Bournemouth hierarchy that he would not be signing a new deal unless the contract contained a release clause.
The report added that the development had alerted Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham, with all three clubs eyeing a summer move for the 25-year-old.
The outlet explained that Kelly has been a long-term target for Ange Postecoglou’s men and that they could still push ahead with a move for the Englishman despite signing Radu Dragusin during the last transfer window.

Newcastle make first move for Lloyd Kelly
However, if The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, the Magpies are now ‘pressing head with talks’ to sign the Bournemouth star.
It is revealed Newcastle are ‘continuing’ talks with Kelly’s camp in the background ahead of the summer transfer window.
The publication explains that given the club’s problems with FFP, the Cherries star is seen as a ‘smart acquisition’ by Eddie Howe’s men, who want to strengthen their backline.

Newcastle would have a big advantage over Spurs in the race for Kelly as the 25-year-old would know that he has a much better chance of getting regular game time at St James’ Park than he would at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
