Report: Newcastle hoping to beat Spurs to striker’s signature

Newcastle United are hoping to beat Spurs to the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer according to a report in the Sun.

German publication Bild (as translated by Sport Witness), reported a few days ago that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho had identified Alcacer as one of the alternative targets if Spurs fail to land Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose.

Alcacer, who has a fantastic record in the Bundesliga for the last few years, is now reportedly surplus to requirements at Dortmund after the arrival of Erling Haaland.

The report in the Sun claims Newcastle hope to complete a loan deal for the Spanish striker with an option to make the deal permanent for £25 million in the summer.

The 26-year-old is reportedly keen to move in order to get some game time under his belt as he eyes a spot in Spain’s Euro 2020 squad in the summer.

The report reveals that Steve Bruce is hopeful he can persuade the striker to join with the offer of plenty of game time in the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Alcacer is a natural finisher who will get goals whichever team he plays for, I don’t believe he is the right fit for Spurs as he is more of goal poacher than a target man. We know Mourinho likes to play with a big centre forward up front and we have lacked a direct option to change things up since Fernando Llorente departed last summer.
