Report: Newcastle in talks with Spurs-linked playmaker

Reported Tottenham target Philippe Coutinho is in talks with Newcastle United over a potential summer transfer, according to Football France.

Spurs have been linked with the former Liverpool midfielder for the past year but recent rumours suggest he has an eye on a move to the Magpies (Football.London).

However, any potential move to the north east club is dependant on the rumoured Saudi-backed takeover being rubber stamped (Independent).

Coutinho made a loan switch to Bayern Munich from his parent club Barcelona last summer, but it is believed Barça could be open to listening to offers.

The report suggests Barcelona are looking to get around £70million for the 27-year-old who cost them double that figure just two years ago.

Coutinho made the switch to Barcelona from Liverpool where the Brazilian spent five years gracing the Premier League (transfermarkt).

Newcastle are believed to be set for a £300million takeover from the wealthy rich Saudi-backed consortium which could see the start of some mega spending on Tyneside (Shields Gazzette).

It seems Coutinho has an eye on the situation at Newcastle, with the mega-rich new potential owners the Toon could be a move for Coutinho to make himself a hero. Huge wages and the potential to steal the hearts of the city, it looks like Spurs have some tough competition if they are serious about signing the Brazilian.
