Report: Newcastle looking to hijack move for Tottenham defender

Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga is reported to be attracting interest ahead of the new season.

Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato Web have claimed that Newcastle United are attempting to hijack AC Milan’s interest in the 23-year-old.

The Magpies are reported to have tabled an offer to the north Londoners which would see them take the central defender on loan to St James’ Park for the upcoming campaign, but also include a clause which would see them obligated to make the deal permanent.

Tottenham are said to ‘like’ the proposal offered by Newcastle, while AC Milan are also keen to bring the academy graduate to the San Siro on loan with the option to buy (Daniele Longo).

Given Tottenham’s homegrown issue, Tottenham may be better to consider offloading Davinson Sanchez this summer to recoup a decent fee and instead retain the services of Tanganga to provide cover on either side of the central defensive trio.

Tanganga’s injury history has hampered his development in recent times, along with his versatility of being able to operate at right-back also detracting from what should be his core position, a central defender.
